Development Manager


Job purpose

Teach For China (TFC) is seeking a driven and passionate Development Officer to join our highly successful fundraising team, during a period of exciting and ambitious growth. The role will be supporting the Hong Kong Development team to raise US$6M in 2017/18 through corporate partnerships, trust & foundations, HNWI and events.

Since launching in 2008, Teach For China has an established history of fundraising in Hong Kong, and has developed an excellent network of supporters, advocates and favored reputation with many of the most influential individuals and businesses.

This role will account manage a portfolio of high-value partnerships and steward a group of HNWI invested in our work. The successful individual will also work closely with the Director of Development to develop a pipeline of prospects, and through a series of interventions, cultivate to secure new partnerships. The successful individual, will also be responsible for collecting data and writing reports, proposals and pitches.

Reporting directly in to the Director of Development, this individual will also provide some administrative support to this role; and be involved in the delivery of the annual gala, providing support to the Director of Development to ensure smooth execution.

The role provides opportunities to progress within the fundraising team; developing key skills in partnership planning, stewarding, event management, compelling communications and report writing will set you up with the skills to kick-start your career in account management, business development and Teach For China.

Key accountabilities:

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Account management of a portfolio of existing high-value partnerships and HNWI’s

Build positive, effective relationships with partners who are motivated to renew support for TFC

Take a lead on writing compelling proposals, pitches and annual reports, ensuring that partnership objectives are delivered on time, as well as being responsible for all associated monitoring, evaluation and reporting

Work with the Director of Development to leverage Board of Directors engagement with TFC, identify and secure opportunities for growth

Working with program teams to co-ordinate the delivery of supporter engagement activities – including school visits, mentoring and pen-pal program

Maintaining accurate donor records using Salesforce

Supporting event logistics for annual gala and cultivation events

Administrative support including writing meeting minutes, booking travel and processing invoices

Technical competencies & qualifications

A passion for Teach For China vision and mission  

Native or near-native English and fluency in Mandarin required

2 -3 year’s work experience ideally in one of the following areas: fundraising, charity, PR, account management, business development, event management

Experience of managing senior stakeholders and demonstrable ability to develop relationships

Outstanding and persuasive verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills

A positive, ‘can-do’, professional attitude

Ability to work independently, making decisions without supervision

Excellent administrative skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, with strong attention to detail

Experience using CRM or similar database software
